OLORI JANET AFOLABI CELEBRATES 2020 CHILDREN’S DAY
In Celebration of 2020 Children’s Day, Olori Janet Afolabi CNN Award Winning Publisher/ Queen of Apomu land Osun state, celebrate, honour and appreciate children.
In a bid to stem the Covid-19 effect on children, give children hope for a greater tomorrow, and put a smile on their faces as they celebrate 2020 Children’s Day, Olori Janet Afolabi, marked the day by giving face masks and cartons of noodles to indigent children in Apomuland, Osun State and Arepo, Ogun State.
Olori Janet, assured the gift package will be done intermittently, and explained the gesture was carried out because of the plight of these children during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also she donated 100 facemasks to the Government Special School of the Blind in Ikere, Ekiti State.
Olori Janet Afolabi, noted that there are millions of children whose lives are surrounded by huge starvation, poverty, death, violence, forced labor, sexual abuse, domestic violence, malnutrition and lack of education.
According to her, a survey conducted by the United Nations Children Fund UNICEF, indicates that the number of children out of school rose from 10.5 million to 13.2 million yet primary education is officially free and compulsory. Malnutrition prevalence remains alarming, as UNICEF 2018 figure, reported 2.5 million children die every year from malnutrition.
Presently, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the interventions of government and non-governmental organizations over the years to salvage the situation, may have suffered a serious setback, leaving children devastated.
Olori, added that many families are struggling for the survival of their children. Children in IDP’s, informal settlements, orphanages, on the streets, slums and overcrowded communities are also in dire need, a situation that is pitiful and lamentable.
Olori Afolabi, urged parents and caretakers to guide children about regular hand washing, social distancing and emphasized on regular preventive messages to reduce the spread of Covid 19.
