NIGERIA’S FIRST RADIO STATION FOR WOMEN (WFM 91.7 ) UNVEILED IN LONDON
St. Ives Communication unveiled the name for Nigeria’s first radio station for women and their families in London.At an event held at swanky Mayfair, West London, with top media personnel and community leaders from the Nigerian Community including City People Magazine’s London correspondent Jummy Ariyo in attendance, Mrs Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, a director of St.Ives Communications said, that the decision to go with “WFM” was unanimously made.after careful scrutiny of the different names suggestions provided by members of the public, family and friends. She further explained that “WFM was picked based on the comments such as different, unique, original, and encompassing that were received and these are all attributes that describe the station.
Okewale added that names suggestions came via Social Media of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BBM, Whatsapp and email and these came from as far away as China, Dubai, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Canada, Albania, Belgium and France. Suggestions were also sent in from South Africa, Zimbabwe, The Gambia and Sierra Leone.
WFM 91.7 though licensed to broadcast to women, will also cater for men and the entire family by engaging in issues on local, national and international importance for all. It will operate 24 hours of more talk, less music, addressing universal everyday issues.WFM will be a reliable, leading and trusted source for all related news, information and matters of interest for women and their families, according to Okewale.
Special Guest of Honour representing the Nigerian High Commissioner at the event, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq, the Minister for Immigration at the Consulate, in her remarks commended St Ives Communications for their accomplishment and applauded the Nigeria’s regulatory body, NBC, for granted this historic licence.
The Chairman of St Ives Communications, Dr Babatunde Okewale in his vote of thanks given on his behalf by Dr Oladunni Okewale, expressed gratitude to everyone for spending their evening with WFM 91.7 and gave the organisation’s assurance of quality and positive broadcasting. 91.7FM will commence test transmission on the 1st of October 2015.
