THREE WOMEN MADE BUHARI’S MINISTERIAL LIST: WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria this week announced twenty-one ministerial nominees including himself as the Petroleum Minister.
Taraba State’s Aisha Alhassan, Ogun State’s Kemi Adeosun and Kaduna State’s Amina Mohammed were the three women who were nominated. The senate president, Bukola Saraki made the announcement on behalf of the president earlier on in the week.
Aisha Jummai Alhassan is the former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Taraba State. She also contested to be governor of the state in the 2011 elections where she lost and failed to make it as Nigeria’s first female governor. She was appointed the Chief Registrar of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in December, 2003.
Amina Mohammed was appointed as the special adviser on Post 2015 Development planning for the United Nation’s Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon in 2012. She worked as senior adviser to the president of Nigeria on Millennium Development Goals for six years. In 1991, she founded Afri-Projects Consortium, a multidisciplinary firm of Engineers and Quantity Surveyors.
Kemi Adeosun has served as Commissioner of Finance in Ogun State and is a graduate of Economics from the University of East London. She was a senior manager at the PricewaterhouseCoopers, London. She is the youngest of the three women and is a member of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales.
Among these minsters are former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the former governor of River’s State governer, Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige and Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State among others.
