FG Unveils 10 Million Women Mega Empowerment Rally for 5th of May 2026
The Federal Government has announced plans for the Power of 10 Million Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026, a nationwide initiative aimed at placing women at the centre of Nigeria’s economic and political development.
The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, made this known during a World Press Briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday, April 29. She revealed that the rally will take place on May 5, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, under the theme: “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice.”
“Not an Event, But an Awakening”
Describing the initiative as “a paradigm shift,” the Minister said the rally is not symbolic but strategic. It is designed to serve both as a platform for women’s visibility and as a pipeline for tangible empowerment across all 774 Local Government Areas.
“Across Nigeria, the voices of women are rising, not in fragments, but in force. This is a movement of unprecedented scale, unity, and transformative intent, anchored on the principles of Renewed Hope, Renewed Promise, and Renewed Prosperity,” she said.
The 10 Million Women Agenda
The Minister said the rally stems from a directive from Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria: “Go and put money in the hands of women.”
She noted that evidence shows women reinvest up to 90% of their income into families and communities. “When you empower a woman, you empower a nation,” she said.
To drive this, the Ministry has deployed the Renewed Hope Social Impact Interventions (RH-SII 774) — a nationwide framework designed to reach women in every LGA through grants, microcredit, skills acquisition, agricultural support, clean energy access, social protection, and market linkages.
These interventions align with the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy (2023).
Three Defining Outcomes
The Minister outlined three national outcomes expected from the rally:
- Endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR as Presidential Candidate ahead of the forthcoming General Elections, reflecting women’s confidence in his leadership.
- National Charter of Demands — an evidence-based articulation of women’s priorities to be institutionalized within governance frameworks.
- Inauguration of Women Collectives across 9,410 wards nationwide, modeled after the Nigeria for Women Programme, to embed empowerment at grassroots level.
2026: Year of Families and Social Development
The Minister emphasized that President Tinubu has declared 2026 as the Year of Families and Social Development, reinforcing that “national stability is rooted in family cohesion, and at the heart of every resilient family is a woman who nurtures, sustains, and multiplies value.”
She also commended the First Lady for her sustained outreach and advocacy, saying her work “reflects a leadership model rooted in empathy, driven by service, and anchored on the belief that no segment of society should be left behind.”
Call to Action
The Minister called on the government, private sector, development partners, civil society, and the media to amplify the movement, emphasizing that their roles are critical in ensuring every Nigerian woman hears the call and takes her place in the ongoing national transformation.
“This is not just about numbers; it is about impact. It is about shifting narratives, transforming systems, and building a future where no woman is left behind,” she said.
She added that the rise of Nigerian women is not a possibility, but an inevitability.
