60 Communications Officers Strengthen Strategic Storytelling to Advance Women’s Rights Through the RWVL-N Project
Lagos, Nigeria — Sixty Communications Officers from Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs) across Nigeria have strengthened their strategic communication skills through the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL-N) Project, in a focused training designed to advance visibility, advocacy, and narrative influence for women’s rights.
The capacity strengthening session, organised by Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation (VOWEF) through Women Radio WFM 91.7, brought together communications professionals working across diverse communities to deepen their ability to craft compelling press releases and impactful social media content that reflects women’s leadership and agency.
The training emphasised storytelling from a place of strength, positioning women not as passive beneficiaries, but as active leaders, decision-makers, and drivers of change within their communities. Participants engaged in practical exercises on press release writing and social media caption development, equipping them with tools to amplify advocacy efforts and increase public engagement.
Speaking during the training, Emmanuel Olonade, Communications Specialist at VOWEF, stated that “Strategic storytelling is critical to advancing women’s rights. When we communicate from a place of strength, we not only increase visibility but also shape narratives that position women as leaders and drivers of change.”
Bukola Gbede, Project Director at VOWEF, stressed that
“Social media remains a powerful advocacy tool. How we frame our messages matters, our stories must reflect the strength and leadership of women, while driving meaningful engagement and action.”
Participants described the training as timely and relevant, noting that the skills gained will significantly improve how their organisations communicate impact, engage stakeholders, and mobilise support for women-focused initiatives.
This effort forms part of the broader RWVL-N Project commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and advancing women’s rights across Nigeria through sustained support to Women’s Rights Organisations.
Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation (VOWEF) is a non-profit organisation advancing the rights and visibility of women and girls in Nigeria through advocacy, media, and capacity strengthening.
