Nigerian Women Seek Legal Action on 35% Affirmative Action
A national stakeholder meeting towards an inclusive governance in Nigeria was held in Abuja with a focus on advancing collaborations on strategic litigation for inclusive governance.
The strategic roundtable meeting according to Mufuliat Fijabi, CEO Nigerian Women Trust Fund was as a result of the continuous failure of the federal government of Nigeria to implement the 35% affirmative action for women’s inclusion in governance.
Barrister Ebere Ifendu, President Women In Politics Forum (WIPF) says “the 35% affirmative action is long overdue and nothing wrong for us to be demanding for its implementation at this time”
Participants at the national stakeholder meeting include Ngozi Juba CEO Vision Spring Initiative, Barrister Aisha Ali Tyjani of FIDA Kano, Austin Aigbe Senior Programme Manager Centre for Democracy and Development, Barrister Brenda Anugwom Country Advisor Policy Vault, Cynthia Mbamalu Programme Manager YIAGA Africa and Victoria Uwaifo Project Manager Women Radio 91.7
The one-day national stakeholders meeting was organised by Nigerian Women Trust Fund and supported by Open society initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
