Imaan Calms Protest Storm, Gifts Workers Rice, Pledges Unity

The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on Friday, diffused tensions at the ministry after speaking with staff who had earlier staged protests and pledged renewed commitment to their welfare.

At a town hall meeting in Abuja, the minister warmly accepted apologies from workers’ representatives, stressing that she bore no grudges and that unity was critical for progress. Her gesture drew loud applause, with many staff describing her as a mother figure.

Union Chairperson, Mrs. Anne Orjiobele, and Comrade Success Alake admitted the protest was misguided and assured the minister of their support.

In a symbolic act of goodwill, Sulaiman-Ibrahim announced the distribution of a 50kg bag of rice to every worker present, a gesture that sparked cheers and celebration.

She urged staff to put aside differences and focus on the ministry’s mission of safeguarding women, children, families, and vulnerable groups. “Unity is the only way forward. I have nothing against anyone, and I believe we can solve our challenges through dialogue and mutual respect,” she said.

Workers raised concerns about welfare, housing, training, and inclusion, which the minister promised to address within available resources.

The meeting ended on a celebratory note, with singing and dancing, as staff hailed it as a new beginning for peace and collaboration.
