Women Radio Hosts TheMenConversation 6.0 to Mark International Women’s Day

As part of activities marking International Women’s Day, Women Radio hosted the TheMenConversation 6.0, bringing together men from various sectors to discuss practical ways to move from awareness to action in championing gender equality. Themed “Building Inclusive Policies: Advancing Women’s Rights Through Institutional Change,” the conversation focused on implementing real, measurable actions beyond verbal advocacy.

Gabriel Abinye Pollyn, Head of Sustainability at Lafarge, highlighted the company’s commitment to gender diversity through policies such as a 30% female employment shortlist requirement, a workplace respect campaign, and financial literacy programs for women. He also spoke about initiatives like the Green Women’s Network and Bringing Girls into Tech, designed to equip women with financial and digital skills.

Chibuike Utaka, Head of Marketing at MSI Nigeria, emphasized the role of reproductive health in economic empowerment. He noted that MSI Nigeria operates 26 mobile outreach teams and supports over 3,000 public health facilities, ensuring free access to contraceptive services. He also stressed the importance of engaging policymakers and community leaders in making family planning accessible for women.

Filmmaker and founder of Ray House Studio, Toyosi Ige, discussed storytelling as a tool for social change. He emphasized the need for greater female representation in the film industry and encouraged Nigerian filmmakers to use their platforms to advocate for gender equality. He also highlighted the financial challenges in producing impactful films and urged creatives to explore grants and investor funding.

Ishola Kayode, Special Adviser on Digital Innovations to the Kwara State Governor, addressed the gender gap in STEM and digital innovation. He highlighted initiatives like the 3 Million Technical Training (3MTT) program and a state-led STEM education project, both designed to equip women with digital skills and ensure their active participation in tech-driven industries. He stressed the importance of digital transformation in improving women’s access to education, mentorship, and funding.

The discussion reinforced the need to move beyond conversations and take concrete action toward gender equality. Panellists emphasized that gender inclusivity is not just a women’s issue but a shared responsibility. Women Radio remains committed to driving these conversations and ensuring real change in policies, workplaces, and communities.
