National Women Mega Empowerment Rally Calls for Greater Inclusion in Nigeria
ABUJA — Women from across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas gathered at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Tuesday 5 May 2026 for the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026.
Held under the theme – “The Power of 10 Million”, the event was a coordinated national movement aimed at expanding women’s participation in governance, economic development and nation-building.
A key moment was the presentation of the Nigeria Women’s Charter for National Development by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for onward transmission to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister described the Charter as the collective voice of Nigerian women, outlining demands for greater political inclusion, increased representation, stronger economic opportunities, financing for women-led development, improved child welfare and inclusive governance.
Addressing the crowd, the First Lady said women make up more than half of Nigeria’s population and hold the power to drive national transformation. She commended the Ministry of Women Affairs for ongoing empowerment initiatives and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to giving women a stronger voice in decision-making.
The First Lady assured participants the Charter would be delivered to the President, calling it a shared commitment to advancing women’s progress.
The rally also showcased empowerment efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Beneficiaries received tricycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, power tillers, hair dryers, and freezers to support economic independence.
Suleiman-Ibrahim said Nigerian women were no longer spectators in the country’s democratic journey but active builders and partners in development. She added that the “Power of 10 Million” initiative aims to turn women’s presence into measurable impact and leadership.
The rally is a significant step in moving women from the margins to the centre of national discourse. As the event closed, organisers emphasised that unified action by women would drive broader national progress.
