RWVL-N Project Drives Nationwide Capacity Strengthening for 36 Women’s Rights Organisations
Lagos, Nigeria — 36 Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs) across Nigeria are undergoing a comprehensive, multi-level capacity strengthening process under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL-N) Project, in a strategic effort to build resilient institutions, enhance visibility, and ensure long-term sustainability of gender-focused interventions.
The capacity strengthening journey commenced with a high-level inception and annual planning workshop, which brought together Chief Executive Officers and Executive Directors of the 36 WROs to align priorities, co-create strategies, and establish a clear implementation roadmap for the project. The initiative, led by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, places institutional strengthening at the core of its five-year vision.
Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Andrew Mamedu, stated that n“The RWVL-N Project is focused on building strong, independent, and resilient organisations. By strengthening institutional capacity, we are enabling our partners to expand their reach, deepen their impact, and sustainably advance the rights of women and girls across Nigeria.”
Further advancing this objective, Communications Officers from the participating organisations recently underwent a specialised capacity strengthening training facilitated by Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation (VOWEF) through Women Radio WFM 91.7. The training focused on strategic storytelling, message development, and media engagement to amplify the visibility and impact of WRO-led interventions.

Project Director VOWEF, Bukola Gbede, stated that“Effective communication is central to advancing the work of Women’s Rights Organisations through the right caption.’’
Communications Specialist, Emmanuel Olonade, stressed that “Capacity strengthening in communications ensures that the work of WROs is not just done, but seen and understood. When organisations communicate effectively, they build trust, attract partnerships, and drive meaningful social change.”
As part of the project’s ongoing commitment to holistic capacity strengthening, a Resource Mobilisation and Diversification Training is set to be delivered to the 36 WROs. This next phase will equip organisations with practical tools and strategies to secure funding, diversify income streams, and strengthen financial sustainability.
From inception planning to communications strengthening and the upcoming resource mobilisation training, the RWVL-N Project demonstrates a layered and intentional approach to building the capacity of Women’s Rights Organisations—ensuring they are institutionally strong, highly visible, and financially sustainable.
Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the RWVL-N Project continues to play a pivotal role in advancing gender equality by strengthening the ecosystem of women’s rights organisations and amplifying the voices of women and girls across Nigeria.
Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation (VOWEF) is a non-profit organisation advancing the rights and visibility of women and girls in Nigeria through advocacy, media, and capacity strengthening.
