Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim Calls for Global Action on Gender Equality at CSW70
Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called for stronger global collaboration to advance gender equality and protect the rights of women and girls worldwide.
The Minister made the call while delivering Nigeria’s national statement at the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

In her address, she reaffirmed Nigeria’s alignment with the African Group’s position on accelerating gender equality through inclusive policies and social investment.
She highlighted significant progress made by Nigeria in expanding social protection programmes that support millions of families across the country, with women forming the majority of beneficiaries.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim also emphasised the importance of family systems in achieving long-term development goals, referencing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of 2026 as Nigeria’s “Year of Families and Social Development.”
The Minister concluded by urging governments, development partners, and civil society organizations to strengthen commitments that will guarantee equal opportunities, dignity, and protection for women and girls globally.
