BATKOHRRECT CELEBRATES MRS. OLUREMI TINUBU’S BIRTHDAY WITH WOMEN INITIATIVE

Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, has marked the 66th birthday of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, with a grassroots empowerment initiative for women in Waterside Community, Eti-Osa, Lagos.

The initiative, organised under the Team BAT-KOHrrect platform, was held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Waterside Community in Eti-Osa, and focused on providing practical support to women and families within the community.

About 500 women received 3kg cooking gas cylinders, while financial support was provided to enable each beneficiary to refill her cylinder at least twice. The intervention was particularly significant for women who had been relying on firewood and charcoal for household cooking.

Beyond the distribution of the cylinders, beneficiaries received practical safety training from experts on the proper use, handling and storage of LPG cylinders. The training covered essential precautions, including how to identify and prevent gas leaks and reduce the risk of fire-related incidents.

Speaking at the event, one of the coordinators of Team BAT-KOHrrect, Princess Ameenat Elegushi, described the initiative as part of a broader commitment to sustained community empowerment.

She said the intervention was intended to demonstrate the team’s continued connection with communities in the area and its commitment to supporting women through practical initiatives that can improve their daily lives.

According to Princess Elegushi, women are the pillars of their families and deserve support that can strengthen their ability to provide for and care for their households.

She further stated that the empowerment would not end with the Waterside intervention, noting that the team plans to extend similar initiatives to surrounding communities as part of an ongoing effort to support more women and families.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, with several women describing the intervention as timely and meaningful. They also used the occasion to celebrate Senator Oluremi Tinubu on her 66th birthday and expressed gratitude to Hon. Tokunbo Wahab for sponsoring the initiative.

For women who had depended largely on firewood and charcoal, the provision of cooking gas cylinders and refill support offered an immediate alternative for household cooking, while the safety training equipped them with knowledge for responsible use of the cylinders.

The combination of the cooking equipment, refill assistance and safety education made the initiative a practical intervention addressing an everyday household need.

The commitment announced by Princess Ameenat Elegushi to extend the empowerment to surrounding communities also points to a broader community-focused effort aimed at reaching more women and families beyond the Waterside community.

The Waterside initiative therefore served both as a birthday gesture in honour of Senator Oluremi Tinubu and as a grassroots intervention aimed at supporting women with practical resources for their households.
