No To Sexual Harassment in Lagos Markets
The President-General of Nigerian market women and men association, Mrs Folashade Tinubu Ojo has urged market women and men to speak up against sexual harassment and to inform appropriate authorities to ease the effect of abuse while creating a safer Lagos State. Tinubu Ojo spoke at an advocacy meeting organised by NECA Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW).
The Babaoloja General of Lagos state, Alhaji Chief Wasiu Akanda Balogun commended NNEW and said advocacy meetings against sexual harrassment in the markets should be held quarterly to create more awareness to enlighten on laws against Sexual harassment in the market place.
The Vice-President of NNEW, Olakitan Wellington called for strong financial empowerment of women to reduce the high rate of sexual and gender-based violence in our communities.
The One-day advocacy initiated by NNEW to sensitise market leaders and traders on the need to eradicate sexual harassment in the markets was in collaboration with Action Aid Nigeria and supported by Global affairs Canada.
